Approval for RWE Green Hydrogen Plant

  • Wales’ first major green hydrogen facility secures planning permission – a major boost to delivering UK’s target of 10 GW of green hydrogen capacity by 2030.
  • The initiative is expected to cut carbon emissions by approximately 93,000 tonnes annually, akin to removing 18,600 cars from the road each year.

RWE, Wales’ largest energy generator, has obtained full planning approval for its Pembroke Green Hydrogen plant adjacent to the Pembroke Power Station.

The plant will feature a 100–110 MW electrolyser, producing approximately two tonnes of green hydrogen per hour.

Strategically located adjacent to the Pembroke Power Station, the facility will include a direct pipeline connection to nearby industries.

Luciana Ciubotariu, CEO of the Celtic Freeport, commented: “The Pembroke Net Zero Centre aligns with the vision for Celtic Freeport, reinforcing Pembrokeshire’s energy heritage while driving forward green innovation. By safeguarding existing jobs and creating new employment opportunities during both construction and operational phases, the project strengthens the local economy and supports the region’s transition to a low-carbon future.”
